Ribadeo

Having seen how lovely the coast was yesterday, I followed a suggestion from Francisco and took the coast roads around the very top of Galicia. The coast is rugged here with high cliffs and mountains that rise to around 2000 feet immediately behind the cliffs. The rías were again beautiful and I should have loved  to be in a sailing boat down on their waters. The wind was very strong again and riding up to one viewpoint I really struggled to stay on the road. You can see something of that in the second part of the rough video clips below.

Following that battle with the wind, I headed inland for a bit to explore the roads and frankly for a bit of respite. Because last night was rather late for me, I decided not to go too far today and finished up at Ribadeo, on the coast again. For part of my return to the coast I used a brand new autovia that was in fact unfinished and also unknown to Lady Garmin. It was another piece of highway perfection and in thirty kilometres I was the only traffic on my side of the road!

I am in a parador yet again and enjoying wonderful views across the estuary.

And again!

The little video below has two parts. In the first I walk up to a look out point and in the second I ride up to find another - in a strong wind.

Tomorrow I want to explore some of the roads that were just too far west to comfortably reach from Las Arenas de Cabrales when I was riding in the Picos de Europa last year but which looked good on the map.
